Rafters of Driffield began as a market stall run by Andrew Rafter in 1981, moving into a permanent shop at 60 Middle Street South in 1997 after the outdoor markets it depended on started to decline. The business trades legally as The Driffield Fruit Centre Ltd and has grown from a fruit and vegetable stall into a wider grocer, with a deli and cheese counter, a bakery section, local producers' goods, and a range of wine, beer and spirits. Staff select stock from farms and small producers across East Yorkshire rather than buying solely through wholesale channels. The shop is open six days a week and closes on Sundays, giving the family-run business a day of rest after its Saturday trade.
