Olive and Roger Nicholson opened Ravenhill House in 1997 with, as they later recalled, just a telephone, a fax machine for taking bookings, and a newborn baby. The Victorian property at the top of Ravenhill Road operates as a bed and breakfast, with five guest rooms named after local landmarks, including the Downshire Bay Room and the Flax Room. The couple built a reputation around their breakfast table, serving homemade breads and granola alongside the usual cooked options. The guesthouse offers private check-in and check-out, free parking and free WiFi, and has been recommended by the Good Hotel Guide and the Michelin Guide. It sits on a bus route into Belfast city centre, with services roughly every ten minutes.
