McCord Family Butchers has traded from 257 Castlereagh Road since 1976, when Alex McCord established the shop on the Cregagh side of East Belfast. It is now run by Sandy McCord, who has worked behind the counter for more than 35 years. The shop ages its beef for 28 days and prepares extra lean mince steak on site, along with traditional steak sausages made to a recipe the family says is a century old. Cooked meats, including roast beef and stuffed turkey, plus a range of pies, chicken and ham, steak and gravy, mince, are made in the shop rather than bought in from a wholesaler. As well as serving walk-in customers, McCord's supplies meat to some local cafés, nurseries and bakeries in the surrounding streets. The shop has stayed in family hands since it opened, without expanding to further branches, and remains one of the longer-established butchers trading along the Castlereagh Road corridor.
