The Johnson family has pressed apples and pears at Broome Farm since the 1930s, though Mike Johnson registered the current cider and perry company in 2003, working from orchards his father Kenelm had planted to supply Bulmers. The company ferments whole juice with wild yeast rather than adding cultured strains, producing more than sixty bottled and draught ciders and perries from bittersweet apples such as Dabinett and Yarlington Mill blended with sharp varieties like Foxwhelp. Raison d'Être, an oak-cask bittersweet released in a new vintage each year, remains the flagship. The company won the BBC Food & Farming Award for Best Drinks Producer in 2019. Its cider shop at the Yew Tree Inn in Peterstow opens daily from noon, alongside camping pitches on the farm.
