Stuart Elder worked at Ye Olde Salutation Inn for three years after moving to Herefordshire in 1998, then bought the pub outright in 2011 and still runs it as chef-proprietor. The building sits on Weobley's Market Pitch, in a village known for black-and-white timber-framed houses that stand five centuries old, and keeps its sloping floors, low doorways and inglenook fireplaces rather than remodelling them away. It trades as a freehouse with two bars and two connecting, carpeted dining rooms serving an à la carte and set lunch menu, plus three individually furnished en-suite letting rooms, one with its own sitting room. The inn functions as the working centre of a small medieval village, with Elder still cooking in the kitchen himself rather than having stepped back into a purely managerial role.
