The vineyard began on the Sharpham estate in 1981, planted by Maurice and Ruth Ash; four decades on, the winemaking moved down the Dart to the Moon family's Sandridge Barton farm — first harvest 2020, visitor centre opened in June 2022 — while the Sharpham Trust turned the old estate over to rewilding. Duncan Schwab, who joined as a vineyard worker in 1992, now runs the winemaking as chief executive, and the 2020 Pinot Noir took the WineGB trophy for best still Pinot Noir in 2023. The cellar door runs from a £15 self-guided tasting to a guided vineyard safari, with the ROAM restaurant on site — lunch most days, dinner Fridays and Saturdays since the summer of 2025 — and holiday rooms to stay in.
