Sea Source Seafood Shop sells fish and shellfish landed by the Kilkeel fishing fleet, Northern Ireland's largest, direct to the public from a shop on Newcastle Street a short walk from the harbour. It began as a pop-up stall at the Balmoral Show in 2016 before becoming a permanent premises, and is part of Sea Source, an organisation owned by the fishermen who land their catch at Kilkeel, Ardglass and Portavogie. Stock depends on what boats bring in that day and typically includes cod, haddock, whiting, mackerel, crab and lobster, processed at the adjoining plant and sold within hours of landing rather than after a long supply chain. The model is intended to return more of the retail price to the boats themselves rather than to wholesalers further down the chain. The shop trades Tuesday to Saturday and closes on Sundays and Mondays, when the market and processing side of the operation are also quiet.
