Silverkupe is the working studio of Emine Thompson, a jeweller who spent more than twenty years teaching landscape architecture before starting to make jewellery in 2017. She works mainly in recycled silver and gold, using silversmithing, metal clay and wax carving techniques, and takes on custom commissions alongside her own pieces. The studio, based at BBox Studios next to the Biscuit Factory in Ouseburn, also runs small-group workshops of five to eight people where participants make their own wedding or engagement rings under her guidance, with sessions running most weekdays other than Tuesday and Friday, and most Saturdays. Thompson, originally from Istanbul and now living in Whitley Bay, sells finished pieces through the studio and takes commissions by consultation. The business operates from this single Ouseburn studio rather than a retail shop front.
