A heritage centre at Winlaton Mill telling the story of iron and steel in the Derwent valley, from the 1690s through to the 1980s. It is hosted by the charity Groundwork North East and Cumbria and was built on a National Lottery Heritage Fund programme that put more than five million pounds into the valley. The Inside Out Gallery inside it hangs work by local artists, and the café stocks regional producers. The centre points visitors on to Derwentcote Steel Furnace and Chopwell Wood nearby.
