Sula Boat Trips has run passenger sailings out of North Berwick since 1970, when local fisherman Fred Marr began taking visitors round the Bass Rock; his son Chris continued the business until retiring in 2011 after fifty years at sea. The current vessel, Sula III, was commissioned in 2018 and entered service in 2020, replacing the earlier Sula II. Under director Duncan MacRae, the operation runs from North Harbour Pier with a scheduled programme including a ninety-minute Bass Rock sightseeing trip, a longer crossing to the cliffs of the Isle of May, a seasonal seal pup cruise around Craigleith each November, evening cruises and a summer passenger ferry across the Forth to Anstruther. Trips are narrated by the crew, covering local history and the seabird colonies on the offshore islands. The business holds close to a five-star rating across more than a hundred reviews and is the principal boat operator working out of North Berwick harbour.
