The Chesham Arms, a Victorian back-street local in Homerton first licensed in 1866, was bought by a developer and closed in 2012 — then saved by its regulars, who ran a three-year 'Save The Chesham' campaign, got it listed as an asset of community value, and saw it reopen as a free house in 2015. CAMRA lists its operator, simply, as 'Independent'. It is a pub the neighbourhood fought for and won, all the better for it: garden, real ale and cider, no fuss. Drink in a place its community refused to lose.
