Egil took over the tenancy of the Kenton, a five-sided Victorian building dating to 1858, in March 2009 and later bought out the lease himself, freeing the pub from its tie to successive owners Bass Charrington, Enterprise and Admiral. It became an outright free house in October 2015, and the taps now rotate through British and Norwegian breweries chosen by the pub's own staff rather than a single supplier's list. A walled garden sits behind the bar, largely covered, and a former kitchen now houses a private karaoke room added in 2023. There is no kitchen on site; food comes instead from Yard Sale Pizza next door. Quiz nights run weekly on Tuesdays, and the pub has been shortlisted nationally in the Great British Pub Awards. The Kenton operates from this single Homerton address on Kenton Road.
