The Cooper Gallery occupies a former grammar school building on Church Street, given to the people of Barnsley in 1913 by collector Samuel Joshua Cooper along with 200 paintings. Reopened in 2016 after a renovation, the gallery shows permanent and temporary exhibitions of fine art and runs a small on-site cafe.
