The FabricBird

Kate runs The Fabric Bird from a shopfront on Millgate, stocking dressmaking and quilting fabrics, wadding, ribbons, trims and haberdashery for sewers across the Vale. Alongside retail, the shop runs sewing workshops for beginners and improvers, with dates and booking details posted to its Facebook page rather than a fixed timetable. Customers who cannot get to Thirsk in person can order fabric by post, a service the shop has kept going even as digital shopping has taken over much of the trade. The premises sit at 15b Millgate, a short walk from the town's market place, among a cluster of independent art and craft shops on Thirsk's high street.
