The Mill Garden is a half-acre private garden on the bank of the River Avon at 55 Mill Street in Warwick, built directly against the walls of Warwick Castle. Arthur Measures began developing the garden after moving into the attached cottage with his wife Violet in 1936, first opening it to visitors for a single weekend to raise money toward restoring St Mary's Church. His daughter, Julia Measures, now owns the garden and cottage, continuing the public access her father established while he worked on the planting for sixty years. The garden is open to visitors Thursday to Monday from April to October, 10am to 5pm, for a three-pound admission fee, with proceeds split between upkeep and local charities. It remains a private family property rather than a National Trust or council-run site, one of the few English gardens built into a working castle's curtain wall.
