The Railway Tavern occupies a building put up in 1865 to serve passengers from Brightlingsea's now-closed railway station. Sarah and Alex Capon took over the free house in April 2018 and spent the following three years on renovation, restoring the bar while keeping the original layout intact. The pub keeps Essex Boys from Crouch Vale Brewery in South Woodham Ferrers on permanent pump, alongside two rotating guest ales sourced from breweries across the region. It was named Tendring CAMRA Pub of the Year in 2020. There is no restaurant menu; the emphasis stays on cask ale, cider and conversation across the bar's two small rooms. Station Road runs down toward the town's waterfront, and the pub remains a fixture for both regulars and visiting sailors during the summer racing season.
