The bookshop has held Wivenhoe's High Street since 1976 and reaches its fiftieth year in 2026 with plans already announced; Sue Finn, who joined the staff in 1993 and bought the shop in 2014 when her colleague retired — it had become, she said, such a part of her life that owning it was the only conceivable way forward — was named one of The Bookseller's Bookshop Heroes for 2021. The operation runs its own small press, hosts author talks over the sofa and philosophy at breakfast, and closes for lunch every day, a civilised hour this guide has now noted twice and endorses without reservation. A university town's quayside village, correctly served.
