Victoria Bookshop traces its history back to 1891, when it began as a stationer, newsagent and tobacconist rather than a bookshop proper. The present owner took over the business in 1981 and moved it to its current premises on Bridge Street in 1996, gradually building up the book stock into the main trade. It remains family-run and independent, with a single shop in Haverfordwest rather than any other branch, stocking a mix of new titles across fiction, non-fiction and children's books alongside stationery. Its longevity, now well over a century of continuous trading under different guises, makes it one of the older retail names in the town centre. It has been recognised externally as a bookshop of note, featuring in a national bookshop-of-the-month feature.
