Walled City Brewery opened in May 2015 at Ebrington Square in Derry's Waterside, inside the former British Army barracks redeveloped after the Peace Bridge opened nearby. It was set up by James and Louise Huey: James, a qualified diploma brewer with twelve years at Guinness, runs the brewing, while his sisters Jill and Yvonne were involved as founding chef and interior designer respectively. It was the first brewery to open in Derry city centre in more than a century. The site combines a restaurant with an on-site brewery producing its own beer, and a separate taproom added in September 2022 after several years of planning, reached via a side gate or rear steps at the Ebrington Square address. Taproom hours run Wednesday to Sunday, with the restaurant operating to its own schedule; both are closed Monday and Tuesday. The brewery has picked up multiple regional hospitality trade awards for its beer, food and taproom since opening, and remains under Huey family ownership rather than any pub or brewery group.
