Well Read Books opened in Wigtown in September 2018, when Ruth Anderson converted a former bar at 1-3 Agnew Crescent into a secondhand bookshop. The shop stocks mostly secondhand titles with a small range of new paperbacks, set out across rooms Anderson describes as well-lit and brightly painted rather than the cluttered stacks associated with some of the town's older bookshops. Anderson and shop assistant Becky offer what the business calls a knowledgeable and personal service to customers browsing Scotland's National Book Town. The shop sits alongside more than a dozen other bookshops that make up Wigtown's book-town economy, each specialising in different subjects and stock.
