Portadown · Newry, Mourne & ArmaghSurveyed

The Troughton family have grown apples at Ballinteggart House, on the orchard land outside Portadown, since 1898 — four generations before Philip, Helen and Mark Troughton pressed their first commercial cider in 2006. This is Armagh, long the orchard county of Ireland, and the Troughtons work their own Bramley and dessert apples into a range of ciders and, latterly, the Troughton's spirits and mixers made on the farm. The cidery runs orchard tours and tastings from the house, so the cider can be traced from the tree it grew on to the glass. It is a working family orchard that makes cider, not a brand that buys in juice — the distinction the county cares about.
