Auchterlonies occupies a 10,000 sq ft shop at 2-6 Golf Place, a few strides from the 18th green of the Old Course, and traces its name to Willie Auchterlonie, the 1893 Open champion who founded the business in 1895. The shop has remained a family concern for several generations under the Millar family, who took over its running and continue to trade as an independent retailer rather than a chain outlet, despite belonging to the EuroSelect group of independent golf retailers. Alongside clubs, clothing and footwear from major golf brands, the shop runs its own workshop and fitting centre, offering club repairs and custom fittings using Trackman launch monitors. Auchterlonies also sells an exclusive range of Old Course St Andrews crested merchandise found nowhere else. Opening hours run daily but vary by season, with shorter hours over winter.
