Back Yard Bacon opened in spring 2026 on Bath Street, Ilkeston's pedestrianised high street, becoming the third traditional butcher trading in the town centre. The shop sells a range of British meats and fresh cuts from the counter, alongside sausages made on the premises in flavours including Toulouse-style French garlic, Lincolnshire and Cumberland, plus classic pork bangers. Homemade pies and baked goods sit alongside the meat counter. The shop keeps shorter hours than a supermarket, opening from 8am to 2:30pm on weekdays and 8am to 1:30pm on Saturdays, closed Sundays. It occupies a two-storey brick unit that has previously served other retail tenants on the same stretch of the high street. As a new independent business it adds to Ilkeston's growing cluster of specialist food shops.
