The Captain's Tea Rooms opened in August 2024 within the walled garden grounds of Locko Park, the historic Drury-Lowe family estate near Spondon, and is run by Mark Foulds. It occupies a converted farmhouse beside parkland that was among the first gardens opened to the public under the National Garden Scheme, in 1927. Scones, sandwiches, cakes and platters are served across mid-week and weekend sittings, with tables looking over lawns and mature trees rather than a retail car park. The distinction matters here: Locko Park remains a private family estate rather than a commercial garden centre, and the tea room trades as a small independent business within its grounds. Bookings are taken for baby showers and small gatherings alongside regular passing trade.
