Doctor's Orders occupies a former pharmacy on Mansfield Road in Carrington, Nottingham, taking its name from the chemist's shop that previously stood on the site. It opened in December 2012 as Nottingham's first micropub, set up by Prakesh Ross, Rob Arthur and Rich Burns and refurbished by Magpie Brewery in a Victorian apothecary style, with dark wood shelving and apothecary jars nodding to the building's former use. Five real ales are served at any time, two of them brewed by Magpie, with the rest rotated through a cask-for-cask swap arrangement with breweries from across the country, alongside changing ciders. The pub remains a single, one-room bar under Magpie Brewery's ownership, with no other branches, and has kept its original compact, standing-room layout since opening.
