The Ballater Gallery on Bridge Street opened in June 2019, the project of David Reid, an Aberdeen-born former partner at property consultancy Knight Frank who gave up that career in 2018 to deal in art. Reid spent months meeting more than forty mainly Scottish artists, several with international exhibiting records who had not previously shown work in Scotland, before settling on Deeside for his gallery. The space sells original paintings, sculpture and objects d'art at prices intended for buying rather than only viewing, and takes part in the Own Art interest-free purchase scheme. Reid had previously organised art sales in Aberdeen in aid of Maggie's cancer care centres. During pandemic closures the gallery kept trading through online sales and appointments before reopening its physical doors. It shows a changing selection of contemporary Scottish painting and craft and is open seven days a week to visitors along the town's main shopping street.
