The Tolbooth stands on Station Road close to Ellon's centre and bus stops, trading under Tolbooth Public House Limited with Keith Tawse a director since 2005 and Claire Tawse since 2017. The bar is arranged over split levels with a separate conservatory and an outside courtyard for al fresco drinking, giving it more room than a typical town pub. Cask ale rotates between two Scottish breweries and one from south of the border, served alongside standard lagers and a wide range of spirits. Pool, darts and regular live music nights draw a mixed crowd across the week, with the pub busiest on Friday and Saturday evenings. It remains a fixture for locals rather than a place built around food.
