Brickmaker's Alehouse was set up by CAMRA members Martin and Robin as Bexhill's first micropub, in a Sea Road shopfront dating from around 1900 that had already been a milliner's, a tea room, a restaurant and a wholefood shop. The name nods to an earlier tenant: in the 1930s the premises were used as an office and showroom by the Lunsford Brick and Tile Manufacturing Company, whose name is set into the mosaic step at the door. Inside, a cool room holds an ever-changing line-up of five real ales served straight from the cask, alongside real ciders, canned beer and wine. The pub has won South East Sussex CAMRA Pub of the Year four times in six years and a CAMRA award for its conversion. Dogs are welcome, children until seven in the evening, with live music twice a month.
