Rye Pottery has worked from the same Wish Ward site since reopening after the war, run today by Josh and Tabby Cole, the third generation of the family to hold the business since 1947. Tiles, tableware and decorative pieces are hand-painted using a decorating method the pottery traces to the seventeenth century, with each piece passing through at least twelve separate hand processes before it is finished. Alongside tableware, the pottery makes English animal and bird figurines and a range of period-inspired collections drawing on historic English ceramic styles. Orders can be placed directly by phone or email. The business has been passed down through only three families across its history, the Coles among them.
