Cloud Coffee Co occupies a small corner unit on Crookes Road, in the space that once held Whaletown Coffee. The shop is run by three friends, Con, Aaron and James, who serve espresso drinks in macchiato-sized glasses alongside beans and brewing kit for home use. Croissants come in daily from Depot Bakery rather than being made on site, a small collaboration typical of how independent shops along this stretch support one another. The décor is plain: orange, white and black paintwork with graphic art on the walls, no attempt at polish. Dogs are welcome underfoot, and regulars drop in for the Coffee and Clobber Club, an after-hours vintage clothing pop-up with a DJ. It is a straightforward neighbourhood coffee stop for Crookes and nearby Walkley, with good coffee taken seriously and nothing else overthought.
