Collected occupies two floors of the Riverwalk in Durham city centre, a bookshop built around fiction, poetry and non-fiction written by women, alongside a small café serving coffee to browsing customers. The shop runs book clubs and author events through the year and has partnered with Durham Johnston Comprehensive School to help stock its library from a public wish list, a scheme that lets customers buy a book for the school shelves alongside their own purchase. Genres range from literary fiction and fantasy to children's picture books, with staff recommendations and themed bundles changing through the year rather than a fixed set list. The upstairs floor gives over more space to seating, so customers can read a chapter before deciding whether to buy, and the till doubles as the counter for filter coffee and cake.
