Gambero Rosso has served Italian food from its canal-side building in Bainsford for more than fifteen years, run by Antonio and his wife Susan. Antonio grew up watching his mother cook in Sicily before moving into professional kitchens, and the pair took over the building as regulars themselves once the previous owners moved on. The building has had several lives, starting as a boat house on the Forth and Clyde Canal, then a fruit market and later a bar, before becoming a restaurant. Pasta is made fresh in-house alongside wood-fired pizzas and a changing fish special based on the day's catch. All ten desserts on the menu are also made on site rather than bought in. Tables along the canal side are the first to fill on a clear evening, with the rest of the room following once they are taken.
