Surveyed
Mike Gurney started with a ten-square-foot hole in the wall at Brancaster some four decades ago and opened the Burnham Market shop on the green in 1992, where it has become the village's fishmonger of record: crab and lobster off the local boats, salmon kiln-smoked over oak sawdust in the traditional way, fishcakes and pâtés made behind the counter. A Fish Box sibling trades at Drove Orchards up the coast at Thornham, disclosed here as the second door. Burnham Market has been nicknamed for its London visitors; the fish shop predates the nickname and will outlast it.
