Mambow is chef-owner Abby Lee's restaurant on Lower Clapton Road, opened at the end of 2023 after several years as a market stall and pop-up. Lee grew up around family bakeries in Singapore and Malaysia, trained at Le Cordon Bleu in London, then spent time cooking in a Michelin-starred restaurant in Puglia. She returned to Malaysia during the 2020 pandemic and relearned dishes from her aunt, work that now shapes a menu built around Nyonya cooking, the Malay-Chinese cuisine of her heritage. Two dishes that recur on the changing menu are babi chin, a dark soy sauce-braised pork belly, and pumpkin kapitan, a Nyonya curry. The room runs on a short list that changes often, summed up on the restaurant's own site as Malaysian Heat and Juicy Wines. Opening hours are limited to four nights a week, Wednesday to Saturday.
