Charles and Chloe White spent two years planning before launching Marlow Gin, trading as The Marlow Distillery, in July 2019, starting out in a garage on a Marlow Bottom industrial estate. The pair, who met while working for the Fat Duck Group, distil their London Dry gin by hand over an open flame using a copper alembic still made in Portugal and nicknamed Jinx, then bottle, label and wax each bottle themselves rather than using automated lines. There is no public shop with fixed hours; the gin sells through the distillery's online store and from a stall at Marlow Market on the third Saturday of every month. The name recalls an estate in Surrey that Charles's great-grandfather built from nothing in the early 1900s.
