Middleport Pottery

Burgess & Leigh built Middleport Pottery in 1888 on the bank of the Trent and Mersey Canal, and Burleigh earthenware is still made there using the transfer-printing and slip-casting processes recorded in the original building. The works went bankrupt in 1999; Denby bought and later sold the site to the charity now known as Re-Form Heritage, which restored the buildings and reopened them to visitors in July 2014. Factory tours pass through the working departments where ware is cast, dipped, and fired by hand. Clay College Stoke, a two-year studio pottery diploma led by course director Kevin Millward, occupies the Prince of Wales Studio on the same site. The visitor centre also holds a gallery, a café, and a shop selling factory seconds.
