Paper Moon Bookshop opened on Jeffries Passage, off Guildford High Street, in August 2025, ending a gap of more than two decades since the town last had a dedicated independent bookshop. It is run by Hannah Richardson and Jack Mountford, who met while working at Lionsheart Bookshop in Woking before opening their own shop together. The stock covers fiction and non-fiction across genres, reflecting each owner's reading tastes: Richardson favours romantasy and historical fiction, Mountford prefers classics and epic fantasy. Alongside books, shelves carry bookish stationery and gifts, including notebooks, bookmarks and pins. The shop runs events and built its opening stock partly through a crowdfunding campaign. Trading from a small unit down the cobbled passage, Paper Moon gives Guildford a standalone bookshop again after a long period without one, staffed directly by its two founders rather than by employees of a chain retailer.
