R&R Bistro occupies a first-floor dining room and ground-floor restaurant on Skelton's High Street, a short drive from Guisborough. Elaine, the owner and head chef, named the business after her late parents Rob and Ruth and specialises in seafood, alongside steaks, Sunday roasts and vegetarian dishes cooked from locally sourced ingredients. She runs the bistro with her partner Sandra, while her daughter Eve works front of house and mixes cocktails at The Detroit, the Motown-themed bar added upstairs in 2022. The bistro first opened in September 2020, closed briefly during a pandemic lockdown five weeks later, and reopened in 2021 before moving to its current, larger premises the following year. Tables are booked without a fixed time limit, so diners can take a full evening over a meal.
