Record Collector has traded from Fulwood Road in Broomhill since 1978, and describes itself as South Yorkshire's largest independent vinyl and CD store, stocking upwards of 50,000 vinyl records and 25,000 CDs across every genre. The shop buys, sells and part-exchanges second-hand collections alongside new releases and reissues, with staff who price and grade stock by hand rather than through an automated system. Crates are organised by genre through soul, jazz, metal, indie and dance sections, with a run of seven-inch singles and a small rack of music DVDs near the counter. The shop has outlasted most of the independent record shops that opened around it in Sheffield city centre over the same period. It opens Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10am to 5.45pm, closed all day Wednesday and Sunday. There is no in-store cafe or listening bar; the format is unchanged from a working record shop rather than a lifestyle retail space.
