Surveyed
David Roder opened Rye's micropub on 4 May 2018 in the Grade II listed former waterworks of 1718 — a pump house on Tower Street that spent three centuries moving liquid around town before finding its vocation — and runs it as a family unit with his partner Ulla and their sons. The beer comes partly from their own microbrewery a mile off at Playden, disclosed as the operation's other half, and the cider is taken seriously enough that CAMRA named it Cider Pub of the Year for 2023, runner-up the year after, with a LocAle award in 2024 for keeping the casks local. The branch surveyors were in as recently as February 2026. Small room, old bones, family pours: the form at its best.
