The Saxty family, who have run Saxtys Bar and Club on Widemarsh Street in Hereford since 2001, opened the adjoining Secret Bottle Shop in 2016 as a dedicated retail counter for wine, champagne, port and spirits. The family describes a long background in the licensed trade locally, and the shop trades on direct relationships with small producers and distributors rather than volume wholesalers, favouring organic, vegan and less common bottlings alongside gin, rum, whisky and cognac. Product knowledge is treated as a selling point, with the range changed regularly as new and unusual lines are sourced directly from growers and distillers. The shop occupies a single Hereford building rather than a chain of branches, and continues to trade alongside the bar next door under the same family ownership.
