Cathedral Quarter · BelfastSurveyed

A pub has stood on the corner of Kent Street and Union Street for more than a century, trading under names including The Avenue and The Tavern before Pedro Donald reopened it as the Sunflower in December 2012. Donald retired in 2024 and passed the pub to Richard McCallion and Bob McManus, both part of the original team that helped him open it. The security cage on the front door, a leftover from the Troubles, has been kept as a piece of the building's history rather than removed. CAMRA lists the Sunflower as an independent free house, with no brewery or pub company holding a stake. One hand-pump serves changing cask ales from breweries such as Kinnegar, and a beer garden serves wood-fired pizza most evenings of the week.
