The Dog & Rabbit opened in 2016 in a shop on Park View, Whitley Bay, that had previously sold women's clothing under the name Gabrielle. A small brewing kit sits on the premises, and the pub's own beers appear alongside four or five rotating cask ales from other North East breweries, plus a changing keg and bottle list. One recent batch, a fresh hop stout, used hops grown at the back of the building. There are no televisions, jukeboxes or fruit machines, just a corner bar with six handpumps and a scattering of small tables. A local artist painted the dog-and-rabbit sign that hangs over the bar. It holds LocAle accreditation for stocking beer brewed within the region, and dogs are welcome inside.
