The Old School Restaurant occupies the former Duirinish School at Dunvegan, a building dating from the 1870s that later served the village as a general store before opening as a tearoom in 1985. Maryann and Hugh Mackenzie, returning to Skye after naval careers, established the restaurant, and it is now run by their son John, keeping it a single family-owned site. The kitchen works with local and Scottish produce, including seafood landed nearby and traditional Scottish dishes, in a relaxed dining room a short distance from Dunvegan Castle. The restaurant trades seasonally rather than year-round, and its long tenure has made it one of the more established independent dining rooms in the northwest of the island. Bookings are taken by phone, and the setting inside the old schoolhouse is part of its character.
