Holly Dawes founded The Wonki Pot in 2022, shortly after finishing a master's degree in craft at Brighton, working first from a small studio at The Yard in Hastings before moving in 2025 to the Craft Barn at Crafted at Powdermills, a rural site outside Battle. She forages much of her clay herself, gathering wild clay and minerals from the shoreline and surrounding woods rather than buying it in, and her own pieces move between functional ware and sculptural forms shaped by that material. Teaching sits alongside her own practice: the studio runs beginner throwing courses, hand-building workshops, drop-in sessions charged by the hour and one-off sessions on foraging and preparing wild clay. Students describe her manner as relaxed rather than formal, sharing technique without making a show of expertise. Bookings extend to private groups and studio memberships.
