Ullapool Museum occupies 7 and 8 West Argyle Street in the centre of the village. Ullapool Museum Trust, a registered charity since 1998, runs the museum, with displays covering local life, maritime history, the herring fishing industry and the Gaelic culture that shaped this small Loch Broom settlement. The museum opens Monday to Saturday from eleven until four, and Sunday afternoons from midday, closing over the winter months and reopening each April. It is staffed largely by volunteers rather than paid attendants, and holds an archive of photographs and objects donated by local families over the years. Among the small number of visitor attractions in this part of Wester Ross, it remains independent of any national museum network, funded through admissions, membership and local fundraising rather than central subsidy, giving Ullapool's history a permanent home all year round.
