Bex and Kirsty, who met while starting ecology PhDs in 2006, opened Unwrapped on Crookes in 2018 as a package-free shop for everyday groceries and household goods. Customers bring their own containers, or use ones supplied in store, to fill up on grains, pulses, cereals, dried fruit, baking ingredients and snacks, alongside refillable cleaning products and personal care items. The shop stocks entirely vegetarian goods, with a large vegan range, and the founders deliberately price stock across several budgets rather than positioning it as a premium or wholly organic retailer. Unwrapped operates from this single unit in Crookes, applying the founders' scientific backgrounds to how products are chosen and labelled, and has become a fixture of the street's independent shopping parade.
