Liam Plowman had lived in Herne Hill for twenty years and worked in media before he spent two years earning wine qualifications and tracking down small producers. He fitted out the shop on Half Moon Lane himself over a fortnight, using scaffold poles and wooden crates for shelving; the building had been his landlord's father's greasy spoon café in the 1960s. Wild + Lees calls itself a bottle shop rather than an off-licence, stocking natural and low-intervention wine alongside small-batch spirits, cider and beer, with olive oil and chocolate kept by the till. The shop opened in November 2016 and delivers by bike across the surrounding postcodes.
