Claire Fisher opened Ganapati on Holly Grove in the week before Christmas 2004, after training in the kitchens of Rasa Samudra and travelling through Kerala to learn South Indian cooking firsthand. The site had previously been a greasy spoon turned French restaurant before she took it on. The kitchen serves home-style dishes from the south of India — dosas, Malabar curries, Keralan fish — rather than the Punjabi-leaning menus common across London. Fisher later opened a takeaway kitchen down the road in 2014. Ganapati celebrated its twentieth year on Holly Grove with a limited run of tea towels, totes and a recipe book.
