Sally and Jamshid Butcher opened their Persian corner shop on Peckham High Street in 1995, and it grew a café, a following, and a shelf of its own literature: Sally's debut, Persia in Peckham, was shortlisted for the André Simon Award in 2008 and named a Sunday Times cookery book of the year, with five more titles since — the rare shop where the stock and the bibliography are the same subject. The shelves run saffron-deep through Iranian groceries, the counter serves the food the books teach, and the whole operation remains exactly what it began as: two people's shop, famous now, unmoved.
